Get rewarded for playing Rust

Not as a job, but you can get rewarded. On SpawnBoost, Rust server owners fund rewards for new players who reach a simple in-game goal, like playing two active hours and coming back on day three. Sign in with Steam, pick an offer, play normally, and get a cash reward after a short check (18+). Rewards are per goal, never per hour.

Short answer: yes, there are legitimate ways to get rewarded for playing Rust, but most of what you'll find when you search is either a career (streaming), a gamble (skin sites) or a scam (free-skin phishing). This page explains what exists, how SpawnBoost offers work, how payouts work, and the rules that keep it fair.

We run SpawnBoost, so we're not neutral. We've tried to be straight about the limits anyway.

What actually exists for Rust players

Option What you get Realistic for most players? Watch out for
Streaming or YouTube Ad revenue, subs, sponsors Only after a long time building an audience It's a career, not a side benefit of playing
Twitch drops Account-bound skins for watching Yes, but small and cosmetic Only claim through Twitch and the official drops page
Skin trading on the Steam Market Selling skins you already own Small amounts Third-party "trade" and "case" sites are gambling-adjacent; many are scams
In-server rewards VIP time, kits, in-game items from the server Common Stays on that server; not cash
Rewarded server offers (SpawnBoost) A cash reward for reaching a goal on a partner server Yes, if there's an offer that fits how you play Rewards depend on what's live; 18+ to cash out

None of these turn Rust into a living. If anyone promises you a steady amount per hour for playing, walk away.

How SpawnBoost offers work

Server owners want new players: on wipe day, at a launch, or when the population dips mid-wipe. Instead of paying for ads that bring clicks, they fund a campaign on SpawnBoost: a goal, a reward per player and a number of spots.

You see each offer as one line:

Play 90 min and place a Tool Cupboard · €4 reward · EU 2x Solo/Duo · wiped today

Then:

  1. Sign in with Steam. You sign in on Steam's own page. We never see your password. We receive your SteamID, name and avatar.
  2. Press Start. Your spot is reserved and the reward is set aside from the owner's budget. You have 10 minutes to connect to the server, or the spot goes to the next player.
  3. Play like you normally do. Our mod on the server tracks only what the goal needs. No screenshots, no proof uploads.
  4. Reward pending, then approved. When you reach the goal, the reward goes to "Pending check" while we check for alt accounts, bans and bots. After verification it's usually approved within a few days; the exact hold depends on the offer and your account's verification level.
  5. Cash out. Approved rewards go to your own Stripe account. From there you withdraw to your bank.

Typical goals at launch: play a set amount of active time, survive one life for 45 minutes, gather wood or stone, place a Tool Cupboard, craft a Workbench, upgrade to stone, loot crates, or come back on day 3 or day 5 and play 30 minutes. The full list is on how it works.

Rewards are fixed amounts for completed goals. They're never per hour, never partial and never reduced because you were slow.

How we verify goals

This is the part that keeps offers available. If bots and alt accounts could farm rewards, owners would stop funding campaigns.

  • Server-side tracking. The SpawnBoost mod runs on the game server, not on your PC. It sees the same events the server does: movement, gathering hits, crafting, building, looting.
  • Active minutes only. A minute counts when you're alive, connected and actually playing: moving, looking around, and doing something (gathering, crafting, building, fighting, chatting) within the last few minutes. Standing in one spot or sleeping in base pauses the count. The in-game message says "playtime paused, you look AFK" so you're never guessing.
  • Persistence checks. A Tool Cupboard has to still exist 30 minutes later. Placing and picking it up doesn't count.
  • Fresh progress only. Only progress after you press Start on the offer, on that server, from that Steam account counts. Offers are meant for players who are new to that server.
  • Account checks. Your Steam account must be at least 90 days old. We check for game bans at the end of the hold window, and look for shared IPs and devices between players and between players and the server owner.

How payouts work

  • Through Stripe. Payouts go through Stripe Connect, the payments company used by millions of businesses. You set up a free Stripe account once. Stripe checks your identity.
  • 18+ only. You confirm you're 18 or older before you press Start, and Stripe's identity check confirms it before your first payout. Anyone can sign in and browse offers.
  • We don't hold your money. Approved rewards are transferred to your own Stripe account right away. There's no SpawnBoost wallet or points balance.
  • Withdrawals. From €20, with one free withdrawal a month.
  • Countries. At launch, Stripe payouts work for players in the EEA, the UK, the US, Canada and Switzerland. We're working on gift-card rewards for other countries. We can't pay people in sanctioned countries.
  • Unclaimed rewards. Approved rewards that are never cashed out expire after 12 months.

More on statuses and timing: rewards and payouts.

What gets a reward rejected

We'd rather tell you now:

  • Alt accounts. One person, one Steam account. Alts, shared payout details and account sharing get rewards rejected and the account banned.
  • AFK or automation. Scripts, macros and perfectly repetitive inputs are flagged. AFK time simply doesn't count.
  • Game bans. A ban found during the hold window means the reward isn't approved.
  • Being connected to the owner. If you share an IP or device with the server owner, the reward is held for review.

If a reward isn't approved, you see the reason and can open a ticket. Owner reports never cancel rewards on their own; we check them.

Is SpawnBoost legit?

Judge it by things you can check, not by what we say:

  • Steam sign-in on Steam's own page. We never ask for your Steam password, a deposit or payment details to join an offer.
  • Joining is free. You never pay anything to start an offer.
  • Payouts through Stripe, with identity checks, not to a gift-code generator.
  • Rules in public. Verification rules, hold times, minimums and countries are published on verification, rewards and in our reward terms.
  • No penalties. Drop an offer whenever you want. You just don't get that reward. There are no scores, streaks or "reliability" ratings.

Red flags elsewhere: sites that ask for your Steam login on their own page, promise free skins for "verifying" your account, ask you to pay to unlock a payout, or show rewards that look too large for the effort.

Taxes

Rewards may be taxable where you live. We can't give tax advice. Keep your Stripe payout history, and ask a local adviser if you receive regular rewards.

FAQ

Can I do offers on more than one server?

Yes, up to three active offers at a time.

What if the server goes offline?

Your deadline is put on hold until it's back.

Do I have to stay on the server after the goal?

No. Many players do, because they picked a good server, but there's no obligation.
